When people say “t-shirt” nowadays, it is not the same exact idea of the “t-shirt” people had in the last century. True, that old notion of the t-shirt as a simple monotone shirt made out of cotton without a collar still remain. However, the “evolution” of the t-shirt has made it possible for other designs to be famous as well – from cuffed-t-shirts, t-shirts with a round neckline, t-shirts with a v-shaped neckline, to t-shirts with breast pockets and buttons. So why have t-shirts become that popular? Here are some reasons -

The t-shirt nowadays is a statement both in fashion and in the actual statement printed in some t-shirts. Wearing t-shirts denote a bohemian, easygoing, carefree lifestyle. Even most places with formal dress codes now allow wearing of t-shirts, as long as a dinner jacket is worn on top of it. As for statement tees, they have been an outlet for self-expression, individuality, and an avenue for creativity.

T-shirts have proven to be an outstanding tool of advertising with cheap vintage clothes. People have known to be willing walking billboards and have continuously “unknowingly” advertised logos, cartoon characters, and brand labels. The popularity of these logo shirts have not been diminished, despite their reputation as being tacky or vulgar.

Some t-shirts have actually demonstrated to be good investments. Shirts such as vintage Mickey Mouse t-shirts have become collectors’ items and can now fetch as high as $200! Who knew t-shirts can be that expensive?

Whether you want to wear a t-shirt for comfort or for to present a statement, you’re definitely not alone. T-shirts are definitely here to stay!
